The 29th edition of the Capri Award ceremony was held in the Council Chambers of the Comune di Capri and was dedicated this year to Japan. The ceremony saw Virman Cusenza, editor of Il Mattino, receive the Capri-Journalism Prize. This closed this year's event, during which Claudio Angelini, President of Capri Award, also presented the statuette created for the occasion by the artist Lello Esposito to the renowned Japanese writer Banana Yoshimoto.

The Award Foundation, based in New York, made the decision to recognise Virman Cusenza in the editor category last Saturday with the following announcement: "To Virman Cusenza, for the grit and authority he has brought to this pillar of the press of Southern Italy."

Stefano Federico, whose life was ended prematurely earlier this year, was also remembered during the course of events.

The young caprese was an avid self-taught student of Japanese language, literature and culture, and had deep links with the people of the Land of the Rising Sun. President Claudio Angelini read a poem of Stefano's about Japan and presented Marco Federico, Stefano's brother, with a memorial tribute.
